6%Understand the actual order-level cost before changing your prices.

TikTok Shop Malaysia sellers began bearing 6% Service Tax on applicable shipping-related services from 7 September 2026. The change can affect order margins, including orders promoted with free shipping.

This is not a general 6% tax added to every product sold. It applies to applicable shipping-related services charged to sellers through TikTok Shop.

What changed?

TikTok Shop stated that its logistics entity in Malaysia changed from Tokgistics Pte. Ltd. to TikTok Shop (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. on 1 September 2026. Following the change, the tax treatment of applicable logistics services was updated to align with Malaysian requirements.

According to the official TikTok Shop Malaysia announcement:

  • The new tax treatment applies from 1 September 2026.
  • TikTok Shop absorbed the SST from 1 to 6 September.
  • Sellers have borne the 6% SST since 7 September.
  • Applicable unsuccessful-order fees may also be subject to SST.

Which orders are affected?

TikTok Shop determines the treatment according to the time an order was created, not its delivery date.

  • Orders created on or before 31 August 2026 are not affected.
  • For applicable orders created from 1 to 6 September, TikTok Shop bears the SST.
  • For applicable orders created from 7 September onwards, the seller bears the SST.

An order created in August but delivered in September does not become subject to the new charge merely because of its delivery date.

How is the Seller Shipping Fee calculated?

TikTok Shop's formula

Seller Shipping Fee = Actual Shipping Fee, including applicable SST − Platform Shipping Fee Discount − Customer Shipping Fee

Using TikTok Shop's example:

  • Actual shipping fee before SST: RM3.00
  • Actual shipping fee including 6% SST: RM3.18
  • Platform shipping discount: RM3.00
  • Customer shipping fee: RM0.00
  • Seller Shipping Fee after the change: RM0.18

Before the change, the same combination could leave the seller with no shipping balance to pay. After SST is applied, the seller may bear the RM0.18 tax difference. The exact result depends on the actual shipping fee, platform discount and amount paid by the customer.

Does free shipping mean zero seller cost?

Not necessarily. A free-shipping promotion may reduce or cover the original shipping fee, but it does not automatically mean every related charge is absorbed by the platform. Sellers should examine the settlement breakdown instead of assuming that a free-shipping voucher results in zero logistics cost.

What about returned or unsuccessful orders?

TikTok Shop states that 6% SST may also apply to applicable unsuccessful-order charges, including Forward Shipping Fee and Return Shipping Fee.

Sellers should therefore monitor failed deliveries and returns, not only successfully delivered orders. Repeated address problems, unsuitable packaging, rejected parcels or avoidable returns can create costs beyond the value of the original sale.

Where can sellers check the charges?

Applicable shipping-related charges shown in the Seller Settlement Breakdown include the SST applied to the Actual Shipping Fee. Sellers should compare the Actual Shipping Fee, Platform Shipping Fee Discount, Customer Shipping Fee, Seller Shipping Fee and any forward or return charges.

Tax documents and supporting details can also be downloaded through Seller Center → Finance → Invoice Center. TikTok Shop's tax-invoice guide explains that sellers can export invoice details containing the invoice amount, tax rate and tax amount.

Six actions sellers should take

1. Review actual settlement data

Download recent order and settlement reports. Check the amount deducted from real orders instead of estimating costs from the advertised courier rate alone.

2. Recalculate profit per order

Include product cost, packaging, commission and transaction fees, platform programme fees, Seller Shipping Fee, advertising or affiliate expenses, and expected return costs. Low-priced products and single-item orders may experience a greater proportional impact.

3. Check free-shipping promotions

Understand how much is covered by the platform, customer and seller. Review whether minimum-spend conditions and seller-funded promotions remain commercially sensible.

4. Monitor unsuccessful deliveries

Track failed deliveries, return shipping fees and common reasons for parcel rejection. Confirm customer information and pack parcels securely before handover.

5. Standardise packaging

Assigning a suitable mailer or carton to each product can improve consistency and reduce excessive parcel size. Correct packaging does not remove SST, but it can help prevent avoidable damage, returns and inaccurate parcel measurements.

6. Keep invoices and reports

Retain monthly invoices, exported details, settlement statements and relevant accounting records. Businesses that are uncertain about their tax treatment should consult a qualified accountant or tax adviser.

Should sellers raise every product price by 6%?

Not automatically. The SST applies to applicable shipping-related services, not directly as a 6% increase to every product price.

First calculate the actual additional cost per order. Depending on the result, a seller may absorb a small cost on higher-margin products, adjust selected prices, revise bundle quantities, introduce an appropriate minimum order, reduce avoidable returns or review seller-funded promotions.

Key takeaway

Since 7 September 2026, TikTok Shop Malaysia sellers have borne 6% SST on applicable shipping-related services. The most important action is to review actual settlement statements and include the additional logistics cost in per-order margin calculations.
