5 Simple checks to choose safer, right-sized packaging.

The right packaging protects the product, keeps the parcel compact and supports a reliable fulfilment process. Here is a practical way to decide between a pearl bubble mailer and a carton.

Choosing packaging is not simply about finding the cheapest bag or box. The wrong choice can result in damaged goods, returns, customer complaints and higher shipping charges.

Start with the product's risk—not its appearance

Before choosing the packaging, consider what may happen while the parcel moves through the logistics network. Ask whether the product can break, be crushed, leak, puncture the packaging, become scratched, move excessively or lose its shape under pressure.

TikTok Shop Malaysia separates its official guidance into non-breakable, fragile, spillable and small items. It permits a suitably sized waterproof bag or box for many non-breakable products, but requires stronger cartons, cushioning and gap filling for fragile products. See the official Packaging Guidelines.

When is a pearl bubble mailer suitable?

A pearl bubble mailer can be a good starting choice for products that are small, lightweight, non-breakable, not easily crushed, free from sharp exposed corners and sensitive to scratches or minor impact.

Typical examples may include clothing, cables, phone cases, small accessories, jewellery inside suitable inner packaging, small boxed products, sufficiently rigid books or stationery, and selected solid non-spillable personal-care products.

The product should fit snugly without stretching the mailer or placing excessive pressure on its sealed edges. Leave enough flat space for the complete shipping label so the barcode remains easy to scan.

When is a carton the safer choice?

Use a suitable carton for glass, ceramics, crush-sensitive goods, heavy or sharp products, electronics needing stronger impact protection, liquids and gels, multi-item orders with internal movement, or delicate retail boxes that must remain presentable.

TikTok Shop Malaysia states that fragile items should use suitable cartons, individual wrapping, cushioning and enough filling to prevent significant movement. Fragile items packed only in shipping bags may be rejected by logistics providers. Review the official requirements.

For liquids, secure the lid, apply appropriate leak protection and use a suitable protective outer package. A bubble mailer alone should not be expected to contain a serious leak or protect a crush-sensitive container.

Think in protection layers

  1. Primary packaging contains and protects the product.
  2. Inner protection reduces movement, impact and scratching.
  3. Outer shipping packaging protects the complete parcel during delivery.

A pearl bubble mailer can be the outer layer for suitable non-breakable goods, or an additional protective layer inside a carton. Built-in cushioning does not make every product mailer-safe: fragile, sharp, liquid or crush-sensitive products may still require a carton.

Avoid packaging that is unnecessarily large

A larger parcel is not always safer. Empty space allows movement and may increase volumetric weight. TikTok Shop Malaysia explains that chargeable weight is the higher of actual parcel weight and volumetric weight.

Volumetric-weight formula

Length × Width × Height in centimetres ÷ 5,000

An oversized carton can therefore increase shipping cost even when the product is light. See TikTok Shop Malaysia's chargeable-weight guide. Use the smallest practical package that still protects the product properly.

Use this five-question packaging check

  1. Can the product break, leak or become crushed?
  2. Could any corner or component puncture the mailer?
  3. Does the product move significantly after packing?
  4. Is there a flat, unobstructed area for the shipping label?
  5. Have the final parcel dimensions and weight been checked?

If an answer reveals significant risk, use stronger packaging or add suitable inner protection.

Standardise packaging by SKU

Assign a default mailer or carton size to each SKU and record its added protection, packing sequence, packed dimensions, typical weight and exceptions requiring manual checking. Test with an actual product, inspect the sealed edges, gently shake the parcel and confirm that the label fits properly.

Standardisation helps packers work faster and reduces inconsistent parcel sizes, unnecessary material use and packing errors.

Where Kitarpack pearl bubble mailers fit

Kitarpack supplies neutral pearl bubble mailers in eight ready-stock sizes from Klang, Malaysia. They suit many small, non-breakable or scratch-sensitive products that need a tidy protective mailing layer.

Use the Bubble Mailer Calculator or request a sample set to test the fit. Confirm that the mailer is not overstretched, its sealed edges are not under excessive pressure, the flap closes fully, the product does not move excessively and the label has a suitable flat area.

For fragile, liquid, sharp or easily crushed products, choose a suitable carton and additional protection instead. The best packaging is the option that protects the order, supports efficient fulfilment and keeps the final parcel reasonably compact.
